Caroline Newsome, one of KLC’s Diploma Course Tutors, is taking time out in August to travel to Guatemala with the charity ‘Habitat for Humanity’ - www.habitatforhumanity.org.

It’s a global organisation set up to build a better standard of housing for the homeless and Caroline will be ‘hands on’ helping to build shelter for those left with nothing after the earthquakes and subsequent mud slides last year.  Each volunteer works directly with the family whose home they are building and will be undertaking every task from brick laying to plastering.

If you would like to sponsor Caroline you can do so by logging on to www.justgiving.com/carolinenewsome.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

UPDATED!

They worked alongside local builders to construct 2 houses on a small plot of farm land owned by a local family in the North West of Guatemala.   The houses were a basic breeze block construction, reinforced with steel mesh to ensure they were earthquake proof.

The family helped to build their homes.   The view from the back garden was stunning but perilously close to an active volcano.  The few days recovery time Caroline had afterwards in Belize were very necessary after the seriously hard physical work involved in this worthwhile project.

Thank you to everyone at KLC for their support.
