An International Perspective
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
Many students take on the daunting
but very exciting challenge of coming from
abroad specifically to study at KLC. Although
they quickly make friends once they start
their chosen course, impressively they have
had to overcome hurdles including moving,
often with the help of our Welfare Officer
in finding local accommodation, and then studying
an intensive course in a language that is
not their own.
22-year-old Yuki Tokai actually came here
from Japan over 4 years ago to do a BA Hons
in Drama and Theatre Arts, she then came straight
on to KLC. Her experience of lighting design
is helping her on this course but she thinks
that the One Year Diploma Course in Interior
Design starts at just the right level for
everyone and that the KLC tutors cater for
all different needs very well.
Yuki says “There is
a lot of work but because I like designing
and doing something creative I enjoy it.”
Although she and her Mother obviously miss
each other enormously Yuki chose to continue
her studies here believing that being at this
school in London is an advantage.
Lina
Putramentaite from Vilnius in Lithuania had
visited London many times and rated it as
her favourite city as she especially likes
London style. Lina thinks that the location
of KLC at Chelsea Harbour is important, as
it’s proximity to The Design Centre
is not only practical but also inspirational.
Lina has two beauty salons in Vilnius; she
designed these herself and now wants to turn
what was a hobby into a career as a professional
Interior Designer. The one thing she finds
hard is studying in English but she chose
to come here because she wanted to know everything
from start to finish and thinks that by the
end of the course she will have an in-depth
understanding of the subject. Lina’s
6 year old daughter is staying with the rest
of her family in Lithuania and they talk on
the telephone frequently, both seeing this
an exciting opportunity for Lina.
