Computer Aided Design Vectorworks Landmark

This course will help students master the basic concepts of the Vectorworks Landmark software and its main capabilities in relation to Garden Design.

Computer aided design enables the designer to work faster with greater flexibility and to make adjustments to plans and elevations easily and is becoming an essential requirement in a garden designer's skill set.

KLC teaches CAD through a simple step-by-step process, allowing students to gradually build up confidence. Class sizes are kept small so that there is plenty of hands-on attention available from the tutor.

Please note: in order to gain maximum benefit from the course students should allow time between the training days to undertake practice exercises.

The syllabus includes:

Day one (Foundation)

• Introduction of the software interface
• Setting Preferences & Saving Templates
• Drawing & Editing Techniques
• Duplicate Arrays
• Creating 2D Symbols
• Resource Browser (Part 1) – accessing & using your own 2D symbols

Day two

• Creating & Organising Layers and Classes
• Wall Tool inc. inserting Windows & Doors
• Survey techniques – triangulation & offsets
• Importing Survey Data
• Drawing a layout plan
• Resource Browser (Part 2) – accessing libraries, using resources & adding favourites

Day three

• Planting Plans including:
  • Plant definitions
  • Using the plant data base
  • Generating plant lists
• Hardscape tool
• Quantifying materials
• Creating Viewports on Sheet Layers for printing

Day four

• 3D Garden including:
• Extruding a 2D layout
• Image Props & 2D/3D Hybrid objects from the Resource Browser
• Setting Camera angles & Saving Views
• Setting Sun Position
• Rendering & Renderworks backgrounds
• Saving final visuals in PDF format
